Rethinking Surveillance
This post looks at how the roles and responsibilities of users in a surveillance system can be defined to develop a trust-based relationship. I assess concepts and approaches from two perspectives: participatory surveillance; where both parties partake in the activity of surveillance, and self-tracking surveillance; where in addition, the role of tracking mainly sits with those under surveillance.
Artificial Intelligence
AI has become an integral part of our daily lives; however, even as technology offers us more possibilities, we in fact require fewer objects. The future doesn’t need to be an AI future, but rather AI enabled through human interactions. We as designers need to understand AI, what it can do, and how to create user enabled working systems.
On Collaboration
Collaboration is an “affair of mind”. It brings together people with varying skills and backgrounds with an aim of working towards a mutual goal. But how is it that “two heads are better than one?” In this post, I reflect on my collaboration experiences, what I learnt and how I managed to overcome challenges.
Design Approach & Practice
As designers continue to face immense design complexities, a design tailored in a “designerly” approach may effectively allow designers to deliver an optimum state-of-the-art design. This begs the question; is there an opportunity to effectively apply scientific methods to the design practice? In this post, I am going to explore this notion and how a design methodology and process could impact the design outcome.
